Mexican Auto / Tourist Policies
en espaņol
There are some special rules applicable to filing Mexican Auto /
Tourist policies with the SLA. Since it is customary for the insured to
walk out of your office with the original policy in hand, the Division of
Insurance has agreed that filing can be accomplished using copies. Many of
our members write these policies on a high-volume basis and, since they are
identical, including complete policy wording for each policy would unnecessarily
kill a lot of trees. The following special filing rules and procedures
apply to these policies:
File two copies of each declarations page. One will be
stamped and returned to you ("Return Copy") and we will retain the other ("SLA
Copy"). All copies must be legible!!
File them in batches using the
verification slip as a cover page
(up to 20 items per batch [per verification slip]). When you are
mailing in more than one batch in a single envelope or box, make sure each batch
has its own rubber band or clip so it is separate from the other batches.
Provided all policies in the batch are identical and issued by
the same insurer, the "SLA Copy" of the first item of each batch should
have the complete policy wording attached (including
Service of Suit wording). If the policies are not
identical, or there are policies from more than one insurer in the same batch,
make sure you have a copy of the complete policy wording for each insurer, or
for each non-identical policy, included in the batch.
Remember, when filling in the verification slip, the premium column should
contain the actual premium only (rounded to the nearest whole dollar)
from the declarations page. Do not include taxes, stamping fees, policy
fees, or anything else that is not strictly premium. Only premium is
subject to Illinois surplus line taxes and stamping fees.
