Compliance Overview

It is illegal to deliver a policy or premium bearing endorsement to the insured unless it contains evidence of filing with the SLAI (the “SLAI Confirmation Number”).

  • Tax statements and tax payments are sent to the Illinois Department of Insurance (DOI) twice per year (put the due dates on your calendar now).  They must be filed regardless of whether you had any activity and regardless of whether you owe any tax!

The SLAI generates tax statements and mails them to you.  The DOI does not accept electronic filing of tax statements or electronic payment of tax.  Electronic signatures on tax statements are okay.  There is more information on our website about mid year tax statements and year end tax statements.

  • There is no export list in Illinois.

With limited exceptions, you must make a diligent effort to place every risk with licensed insurers.  Diligent effort definition, exceptions and recordkeeping are covered in more detail on this page.
